National U17 footballers win warm up matches ahead of Martinique tourney

The Guyana national U17 boys football team secured wins over the Berbice Football Association (BFA) U20 unit and Rosignol United ahead of their participation in the eighth annual Tournoi International Paul Chillan in Martinique.

Presently in Suriname, the U17s crushed the BFA U20 side 4-1 with Zion Gray, Joshua Ferreira, Nixon Robertson and Orville Daniels on target in the rout.

In the second game the national squad defeated Rosignol 3-2 with goals from Robertson, Rondel Peters and Cecil Jackman. These matches were a part of the seven day encampment in New Amsterdam.

The squad which is headed by chief tactician Bryan Joseph, comprise players from several associations inclusive of Georgetown, East Bank, East Demerara, Berbice, Rupununi and Upper Demerara.

The members of the squad are Goalkeepers: – Jonathan Copeland and Sesi Norville, Defenders: – Jackman, Kevin Padmore, Jeremy Garrett, Ackel Forde, Raushan Ritch and Cyrus Nicholson, Midfielders: – Ryan Dowding, Rondel Peters, Daniels, Ferriera and Jermaine Garrett, Forwards: – Robertson, Nicholas McArthur, Troni Semple and Gray.

The other members of the management team that are GFF Technical Director Ian Greenwood, Assistant Coach Sampson Gilbert, Goalkeeper Coach Eon De Vieira, Team Manager Carlos Bernard, Physiotherapist Seulear Hope-Ross and Referee Kenisha Prescott.

Other countries down to compete in the event are Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Trinidad and Tobago, Haiti and Martinique.
