Dear Editor,
Guyanese media have recently made multiple references to an article ‘Graham, McCain want answers on Sessions-Russia report’ published by CNN on March 2, 2017 containing insinuations about Russian Ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak. Citing unnamed “high-ranking officials,” the authors circulate false stories about the Ambassador which is a blatant informational provocation.
The diplomat has represented the Russian Federation in the United States since July 26, 2008, with the consent of the relevant United States authorities which have not submitted any claims regarding his supposed lawless activities.
The Russian Ambassador’s meetings and talks with US officials were carried out in full accordance with Article 3 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, stating that diplomatic missions functions include “negotiating with the Government of the receiving State; ascertaining by all lawful means conditions and developments in the receiving State, and reporting thereon to the Government of the sending State”. Sergey Kislyak’s efforts to strengthen bilateral relations for over 10 years have always been highly valued by both the Russian and American sides.
This and other false news on Russian foreign policy are being spread by CNN which hampers improving Russia-US ties and solving global issues.
Yours faithfully,
Aleksei Illiuviev
