National youth cricketer Sheldon Charles will lead Essequibo in the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-15 limited overs Inter-County competition starting March 14.
Charles, who scored two centuries in two practice matches, aimed at giving the players from the Cinderella county match preparation, will be hoping to carry his good form in the Inter-County tournament when Essequibo face Berbice and Demerara.
Secretary of the Essequibo Cricket Board, Aotto Christiani said that he was pleased with the teams batting.
“We were able to slot them into two zones for the two trial matches and they nearly batted the entire 50 overs, more than what the senior guys do,” added Christiani.
When asked about who should do well when the tournament begins, Christiani said, “well, we have Sheldon Charles who played for Guyana Under 15 last year and he scored two centuries in the practice matches.”
Demerara and Essequibo will open the tournament when the two sides meet on March 14 at the Police Sports club ground, Eve Leary. Berbice will play the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) President’s XI the same day at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground, Bourda.
The competition continues the very next day with Berbice facing Demerara at Enmore while Essequibo will battle the GCB XI at Everest.
The final round will commence on March 17 and will see the GCB XI playing Demerara at Wales while Berbice will face Essequibo at Eve Leary.
The final will be played on March 19 at Bourda. Teams will gain four (4) points for a win, two (2) points for a washout and three (3) points for a tied game.
Essequibo squad:- Sheldon Charles (captain), Orin Gibson, Renaldo Scouten, Devindra Ramdahin, Raphael David, Manoj Dasrat, Chaitram Sewrattan, Wasim Mohamed, Adarsh Ramdial, Mark Mohabir, Sunil Persaud, Inzamam Bacchus, Shawn Monroe and Tyron Brandon. The four standby players are Ken George, Urrel Stoll, Ryan Atkinson and Tushal Surujpaul.
Forbes Daniels will perform coaching duties while Vickram Ramnarine will act as manager.
Demerara squad:- Shoib Shaw (captain), Mohindra Dindyal, Chad Shivrattan, Edmond Pearson, Andre Seepersaud, Daniel Mootoo, Mark Ramanand (wicketkeeper), Chanderpaul Ramraj, Trevon Charles, Negus Walters, Devanand Khemraj, Ryan Persaud, Ushardeva Balgobin and Brandon Jaikarran.
