Daredevils get ready, the local motor racing season gets off to an explosive start on March 19th with the staging of the ‘Reaction’ Dragz Meet at the South Dakota Circuit.
These and other details were disclosed by new President of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sport Club (GMR&SC), Rameez Mohamed on Thursday at the Club House on Albert Street.
“We are expecting a big tournament, I met with the drivers and they are fascinated with the new systems that we have put in place and they are eager to race.”
There will also be $50,000 up for grabs for the fastest bus. As of recent, Drag Racing has been the seasons’ curtain raiser and the eagerness to burn tyre and be the fastest on the “straight away” is brewing at an all-time high among the speed demons.
The racers are scheduled to start their engines from 10:00hrs.
Mohamed revealed that more than 100 competitors including Surinamese, are set to battle for supremacy in the various categories of the March 19 event which will be a precursor for an international drag race meet later this year. He assured that an international drag strip and launch pad will be completed whenever that event is staged. With regards the comfort and safety of spectators, Mohamed told Stabroek Sports that the club was in the process of erecting stands in the in-field to allow for a more relaxed view of the racing.
The GMR&SC head concluded by encouraging persons to race in a secure and controlled environment.
