Recently crowned Stag Nations Cup football champions Western Tigers collected their winnings yesterday at a simple presentation ceremony held at the Ansa McAl Boardroom, Beterverwagting (BV).
The West Ruimveldt unit walked away with the $2,000,000 first prize and championship trophy after crushing Santos 3-0 in the final at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda, on February 4th.
“I think that Western Tigers always have a talented bunch of players, more so young players and with the blend of the Philip Rowley’s, Ryan Adolph’s and the other senior guys around, it is just about getting the group to work together and a bit harder.
I think they were a bit relaxed and took things for granted but are now working very hard,” said Western Tigers head coach Calvin Allen during brief remarks.
He added: “There are a few things that we have implemented that have probably changed the fortunes of the team and the administration of the club has been doing a great job also.”
Santos received $1,000,000 and the runners-up accolade while the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Riddim Squad pocketed $500,000 and $300,000 respectively.
Western Tigers Philip Rowley and Troy Carrington received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Best Goalkeeper trophies respectively while
GPF’s Quincy Holder copped the Highest Goal Scorer title with eight conversions. Presenting the prizes to the teams was Stag Brand Assistant Keon Persaud.
