President of Guyana Volleyball Federation John Flores has confirmed that the staging of the federation’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been postponed and will now be held April, 1.

The meeting, according to Flores, which was to be held February 25, will now be held at Olympic House, Kingston, Georgetown at 14:00 hours.

The Berbice and Demerara sub associations are expected to attend but according to reports, there is no guarantee that Essequibo, who have been inactive for some time, will attend the association’s planning meeting.

Flores said that he had intended to highlight to the associations a few of the new developments coming out of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

“I wanted to explain to them (associations) FIVB’s new position. They are moving to establish an online structure to interact with coaches, referees, and players. That was the change I wanted to highlight to them,” Flores added.

When asked about what the new development meant for volleyball, his response was: “Well it means that even at the club level, it ensures that we need to register all documentation relating to them. This will also give them the opportunity access training programmes for all the coaches and players.

“A player now has direct access to courses rather than having a coach to come all the way here,” added Flores.

Meanwhile, president of the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) Trevor Williams, when contacted stated that…..“pretty soon there will be the AGM. It is then all the dates for competitions and other programmes will be discussed to ensure that there aren’t any clashes.”

When quizzed about the DVA Volleyball League, Williams indicated that there were a few setbacks but promised to release information about the league in the coming weeks.

“We had some setbacks but we are pushing ahead, more information will be available by the end of the coming week.”

Williams also indicated that the association intends to organize an Inter Schools tournament and also invite a Brazilian team to take on Demerara’s top volleyball teams.
