Edmond Pearson, a young promising Under 15 cricketer from Bareroot, East Coast Demerara, received a new pair of batting gloves and a bat from a few young entrepreneurs at the conclusion of the recent Demerara Inter-Association Under 15 competition.
Pearson, who played for East Coast, could not participate in the first match of the competition against West Demerara. However, he got the opportunity to play against Georgetown where he clobbered an impressive 57 not out, hitting four towering sixes and two fours.
The young man’s talent was spotted by former national cricketer and founder of The Xercise, Royston Alkins, who initiated a plea on Facebook to help the youngster. Fellow cricketers, Marcus Watkins, Melroy Stephenson and Dennis Heywood, along with Guyana’s Information and Communications Technology giant Intellectstorm, responded to the post and pooled their resources to give the young man his new cricketing gear.
Intellectstorm’s Client Relations Officer, Casie Cabose, handed over the gear to the young man at the conclusion of the Demerara Inter-association Under 15 competition and said: “Some are capable of doing so much with so little and they just need that little support to be extraordinary. Our donations are usually in the field of technology and we’re venturing out, as part of our corporate social responsibility, to support youths as best as we can, with the resources that we have.”
The items were purchased from the Leading Edge Sports Store owned by national cricketer Christopher Barnwell, who contributed a pair of batting gloves to the cause. Pearson should earn a place on the Demerara Under 15 team after his performance and will further press a case to represent Guyana, if he continues his fine showing.
