New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors reached the final of the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah Championships crushing Fyrish Black Sharks 44-26 Sunday at the Fyrish Court.
The visitors seized control from jump ball, stormed into the lead at the end of the first period which they led 9-3.
Warriors built on their advantage in a low-scoring second quarter netting six points while their opponents scored four to enter the halftime interval ahead 15-7. The contest was basically sealed at the end of the third period at 35-20 with the visitors recording their best scoring effort.
Warriors registered a decent 20 points in the period. The hosts also tallied their best offensive showing of 13 points. The result was then completed in the final quarter as Warriors outscored Sharks 9-6.
For the winners, Kevin Thom scored the game-high 16 points while Shamar France and Kwesi Mickel each scored eight points.
For Fyrish Sharks, Garfield Benjamin was the top scorer with seven points while the next best contributors were Royston Crandon and Ruel Franklin, with five points each while Kareem McLean chipped in with three points.
Action in the tournament resumes on Sunday at the Rose Hall Court with the second semi-final. The matchup will pit number-one ranked and home side Rose Hall Town Jammers against the ever-improving Hopetown Steelers at 16:00hrs.
The event which was contested in an initial group format, featured six clubs. Group-A comprised of Rose Hall Jammers, Fyrish Black Sharks and Ithaca Hardliners whilst group-B consisted of NA Warriors, Smythfield Rockers and Hopetown Steelers. Prize monies and trophies will awarded to the respective top three finishers.
