Four men, including a father and his son, were yesterday faced with a charge that they had over 10 pounds of ganja for trafficking.
Boxing promoter Keith Bazilio, aka ‘Buckiloo,’ 65, his son, Oliver Bazilio, 32, Shemroy Robertson, 32, and Clinton Chase, 66, were all read the charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
It is alleged that on March 6, they were in possession of 4.734 kilogrammes (equivalent to 10.4 pounds) of cannabis for trafficking at 261 Blue Sackie Drive, South Ruimveldt.
The quartet pleaded not guilty.
Oliver Bazilio was also separately charged with being in possession of 10 grammes of cannabis. He also denied this charge.
A separate charge was also read to Robertson, a real estate agent of 101 Mandela Avenue, for the alleged possession of 440 grammes of cannabis for trafficking. He pleaded not guilty.
According to attorney George Thomas, on the day the raid was conducted, the substance was found in a room occupied by two individuals and not his clients, Keith and Oliver Bazilio, who also live on the premises. He went on to state that Keith, a father of 22, has a medical condition and requires daily medical assistance.
Thomas also highlighted the fact that Chase was visiting the premises when the narcotics were found.
As a result, he requested that his clients be released on reasonable bail.
But Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) prosecutor Konyo Sandiford objected to bail being granted for all of the defendants. She stated that Robertson is presently on $600,000 bail pending trial in the High Court for cocaine possession. Robertson, she stated, was committed to stand trial for the crime on May 25, 2016.
Sandiford also told the court that during the search of the Ruimveldt home, different batches of narcotics were retrieved from a wardrobe in the bedroom, in a stove in the kitchen and on the person of Robertson and on Oliver Bazilio.
She noted that neither of the defendants signed statements in relation to the matter but they did make oral statements.
The file, according to the CANU prosecutor, is incomplete pending the extraction of video footage and the results of the analyst’s report.
Chief Magistrate McLennan subsequently remanded the four men and adjourned the matter to March 27.
