Police are searching for three suspects who robbed an overseas-based couple in an armed attack at Brickery, East Bank Demerara, on Wednesday afternoon, just hours after they arrived in the country.
Commander of ‘A’ Division Clifton Hicken told Stabroek News that the police are investigating the armed robbery of Edwin and Nazeema Persaud, who they believe were trailed by the gunmen from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport to their relative’s home at Brickery. Hicken said the police were making some head-way in the case and they are currently on the lookout for the Toyota Premio car that was used by the robbers.
According to neighbours, the robbery occurred around 3pm on Wednesday, after the Persauds arrived in a taxi, which they took from the airport to their relatives at Brickery. Stabroek News was told that as soon as the taxi drove off, three men in a car pulled up, exited the vehicle and proceeded into the house. The men, who were armed with guns, demanded jewellery and cash from the couple and ransacked the bedrooms in the house in search of valuables. The men later left the home while the Persauds,
who were also assaulted during the attack, were later taken to a nearby hospital. When Stabroek News visited the Persauds at Brickery, they declined to give any comment on the attack. Edwin told Stabroek News that the matter is being investigated by the police and he does not wish to hamper their investigations.
