Second man charged over Festival City killing

A second man was yesterday charged with the murder of Festival City resident Christopher Wharton, who was shot dead execution-style while sitting on the stairs of his home in November of 2015.

The murder charge was yesterday read to Brian Mohan, aka ‘Abdool,’ by Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly. According to the charge, Mohan murdered Wharton, also known as ‘Taps,’ on November 18th, 2015.

Mohan was not required to enter a plea to the charge.

He was also read two other charges for allegedly having a .32 Taurus pistol as well as 10 live matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm licence on March 3rd, at North Ruimveldt.

A not guilty plea was entered for both of these charges.

Magistrate Daly subsequently remanded Mohan to prison until March 30th.

On November 23rd, 2015, Rickford Jones, of Lot 3093 North Ruimveldt, was charged with Wharton’s murder.

The Preliminary Inquiry into the charge against Jones is presently before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

It was previously reported that Wharton was shot-execution style on the stairs of his North Ruimveldt home in what police believed to be a drug-related crime.

The murder, which was captured on CCTV cameras, was carried out by two men who rode up to the house on bicycles. The deceased, who was shot three times about the body, including once to the abdomen, succumbed within an hour of being taken to the hospital. His son, five-year-old Nashan Wharton, who was seen exiting the house and running down the stairs seconds after his father was shot, received a gunshot wound to his foot.
