Persons who pay to park in the city will from tomorrow be able to take advantage of a new two-tiered parking rate when a new set of pre-paid parking cards go on sale.
Though the City Council is still to approve this rate announced by Mayor Patricia Chase-Green and Smart City Solutions (SCS) on February 17 and no amendments to the metered parking bylaws have been circulated to the council, discounted parking cards which will allow long-term parking at a reduced rate are going on sale.
In a release to the media, City Hall explained that prepaid metered parking cards valued at $5,000 plus VAT, will be sold at $2,500 plus VAT, while cards valued at $10,000 plus VAT, will be sold at $5,000 plus VAT.
This discounted pricing which will commence tomorrow and continue until further notice, will, according to the release, facilitate the immediate and interim benefit of metered parking.
Short-term parking rates remain at $50 plus VAT for 15 minutes. However the metered parking fee for all motorists who purchase parking for eight hours or more will be reduced to $25 plus VAT per 15 minutes.
Since the fee for 15 minutes to 4 hours remains the same, anyone paying for four hours at the current rate will automatically be credited with eight hours. This means that time purchased between four to eight hours will cost motorists $800. After eight hours each 15-minute increment will cost $25. All of these charges are subject to VAT.
