Two-time defending champions Chase Academy broke the record for the largest margin of victory in the fifth annual Milo U18 Secondary Schools football tournament, mauling North Ruimveldt 17-0 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
The record which stood at 13-0 and was held by Morgan Learning Centre and Sir Leon Lessons, was easily obliterated. Chase Academy was led by a seven goal haul from Kelsey Benjamin in the fifth, 29th, 30th, 50th, 53rd, 57th and 65th minute.
He was assisted by a double from Ryan Hackett in the 46th and 54th minute while Nicholas McArthur, Job Caesar, Reshawn Ritch, Rondell Peters, Wayne Baker and Jeremy Garrett scored in the eighth, 23rd, 25th, 31st, 58th and 61st minute respectively.
Own goals in the 28th and 55th minute added to the score line. Similarly sealing their berth to the next round was Buxton Youth Developers who crushed St. Joseph’s High 7-0.
Ablamy Robertson netted a brace in the 53rd and 77th minute whilst Shemar Beckles, Elton Sullivan, Justin Jarvius, Joel Anderson and Kifambo Goodman scored in the 26th, 30th, 31st, 50th and 61st minute respectively.
Masters Academy downed Ann’s Grove 3-1. Ryan Dowden, O’Neil Glasgow and Colwyn Peters scored in the 45th, 50th and 60th respectively. On target in the loss was Kobe Durant in the fourth minute.
In the final result, Bishops’ High and St. Rose’s High battled to a scoreless draw. The tourney will continue today at the same venue with another four matches. At 11:00hrs, East Ruimveldt engages St. Mary’s High while St. John’s College will battle Pure Masters from 12:30hrs.
The third fixture at 14:00hrs will witness former winner Lodge Secondary matching skills with Kingston Secondary whilst Morgan Learning Centre opposes Tucville from 15:30hrs.
The championship which is slated to conclude on April 23rd, features 32 teams competing in a round robin format of eight group of four teams.
Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two finishers in each group will advance to the elimination round.
Winner of the tourney will receive $500,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth placed sides will pocket $300,000,$200,000 and $100,000 respectively towards a school initiative and a trophy.
The event is also supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Public Health with an emphasis on Gender Based Violence.
