The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Under-15 Inter-County competition sponsored by Dave West Indian Imports, will get cracking today with two matches.
The import giant renewed its sponsorship for the 2017 competition last Friday at the GCB head office, Regent Road, Bourda.
The sponsorship, in its second year, will ensure the participation of the four team competition which bowls off today, a release from the GCB stated.
Apart for the three counties, Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice, a GCB President’s XI will also compete in the competition.
Following the tournament a select national Under-15 team will be chosen to compete in the upcoming Under-17 Inter-County competition.
Secretary of the GCB, Anand Sanasie, who spoke at the launch of the tournament, noted that the decision to play a select team in an older age group Inter-County competition has been successful and serves as excellent preparation for Regional tournaments.
He thanked Dave West Indian Imports for partnering with the GCB again and said that he hopes the company continues to contribute to the critical development of the players in the U15 category.
Chairman of the Competition Committee, Colin Europe, explained that six points will be awarded for a win, two points for a washed out or abandoned match and 0.1 point for each fast bowling wicket.
Cliff Joseph, of Dave West Indian Imports, expressed satisfaction with the hosting and performance of last year’s Inter-County tournament.
He also praised the 2016 national U15 team for its excellent showing at the Regional competition where they placed second, after winning the competition, the two previous years.
He stated that Dave West Indian Imports was pleased to be associated with the GCB in helping to develop the U15 players who are among the youngest talent in the country.
He suggested that with proper guidance they are destined to go far.
Dave West Indian Imports, added Joseph, believes highly in the youngsters’ talents and potential and have every confidence that they would once again excel at the Regional level this year.
