The Indian Action Committee (IAC) in collaboration with the Viraat Sabhaa Guyana held its first Phagwah Mela ‘Rang Barse’ at the Helena No. 2 Cricket Ground, Mahaica, ECD on Sunday.
A release from the IAC said that the event was graced by the presence of Dr. George Norton, Minister of Social Cohesion who was invited by the IAC to represent and speak on behalf of the Coalition Government.
Even though invited, no member of the Opposition attended the Mela, the IAC said.
The IAC said it is satisfied, given the inclement weather, with the attendance. There were dance items by the Shelita Dance Troupe, Ryan Dance Troupe and the Cane Grove Mandir; Chowtaal singing, chutney and filmi songs, and live band performances by Dak’s New Generation Band.
