The cycling season continues today with the staging of the second in a series of road races organized by the Guyana Cycling Federation’s (GCF).
Scheduled for a 08:00hrs start, the 70-mile fixture will roll off from Ocean View Hotel, proceed to Mahaica and return to the point of origin for the finish.
In an effort to create a transparent system for eligibility for selection to overseas assignments, the GCF has embarked on organizing events where points are awarded to the top wheelsmen.
Jamal John, who won the first GCF race which was staged last month from Homestretch Avenue to Loo Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and back, earned 15 points for crossing the line in pole position. The Team Coco’s standout led Paul DeNobrega (12 points) and club mate, Hamza Eastman (10 points) onto the podium.
In the junior category, Curtis Dey took the spoils ahead of Adealie Hodge and Marcus Keiler.
Leer Nunes won the veteran category with Ian Jackson and Junior Niles placing second and third in that order.
In the first race, there were only 20 starters, the Horace Burrowes-led GCF will be hoping for a much bigger turnout today.
