The stage is set for today’s Pagwah Horse Race Meet at the Kennard Memorial Turf Club, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.
The event, sponsored by Demerara Distillers Limited, Trophy Stall, and the Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company Limited, will see a number of the top horses competing for the lucrative prizes at stake.
The `H’ and Lower classified horses will battle over seven furlongs for a first prize worth $250 000 and there will be six other races on the card which commences at 1pm.
A five-furlong race, open to non-winners of the class `L’ division, has a first prize of $100 000 with $50 000, $25 000 and $13 000 going to the horses placing second, third and fourth.
A six-furlong race, open to horses classified `L’ and Lower, three-year-old Guyana-bred horses has at stake a first prize of $150 000 while horses classified `E’ and Lower, will compete over six furlongs, for a first prize of $400 000.
`L’ Open horses will compete over six furlongs for a top prize of $100,000 while three-year-old Guyana-bred horses will compete over six furlongs for $200 000 first prize.
Finally, `J’ and Lower horses will do battle over six furlongs for a first prize of $140 000.
Meanwhile Hand in-Hand Mutual Fire Insurance Company has provided sponsorship for the first place L-Non winner class category race while Ramesh Sunich of Trophy Stall, Bourda Market has donated a trophy for the champion jockey of the meet.
