Queen’s College, Dolphin Secondary, School of the Nations and Tutorial High sealed their passage to the knockout round when the 5th Milo U18 secondary schools football championships continued yesterday.
At the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, Queen’s College outsmarted fierce rival Mae’s Secondary 3-1. Kevin Willis, Jonathan Connelly and Michael Hunter netted in the 12th, 58th and 66th minute respectively while Isaiah Stephens netted for Mae’s in the 27th minute. Meanwhile, North Georgetown edged Dolphin Secondary 3-2. Beres Parkinson bagged a double in the ninth and 36th minute while Leandre Gilbert netted in the third minute.
Brandon Solomon and Rayon Bailey scored in the 27th and 47th minute respectively for the losing team.
School of the Nations crushed Central High 8-0. Andy Parks recorded a hat-trick in the seventh, 56th and69th minute while Peter Perez supported with a double in the 37th and 55th minute. Contributing to the rout were the trio of Quadel DeFreitas, Darren Thomas and Jibril Abdullah who scored in the fifth, ninth and 57th minute correspondingly.
Tutorial High downed former winner St. George’s 2-0. Travis Hercules bagged a brace in the 44th and 68th minute.
The championships, which concludes April 23rd, features 32 teams competing in a round robin format of eight group of four teams.
Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two finishers in each group will advance to the elimination round.
Winner of the tourney will receive $500,000 towards a school project and the championship trophy while the second, third and fourth placed sides will pocket $300,000,$200,000 and $100,000 respectively towards a school initiative and a trophy.
