Dear Editor,
The sugar workers at the now closed Wales Sugar Factory clamouring for their severance package have to understand they have to await the outcome of the court case. They chose not to take the severance when it was offered but rather to remain as GuySuCo employees.
At the recent meeting between representatives of the government and the Wales community it was posited by at least one person who took up the Uitvlugt work offer that meaningful engagement was not available at the alternative work site. If this is so then the corporation has a responsibility to ensure conditions of work are no less favourable than what obtained at Wales.
It is hoped this matter will be resolved peacefully and amicably.
In the mean time workers at Wales need to keep positive amidst all the rhetoric.
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
