The investigation of the murder of a Moruca, North West District farmer has been completed and the police file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for recommendations, according to Commander of ‘F’ Division Ravindradat Budhram.
Budhram told Stabroek News that as the police await legal advice, the suspect, who has been identified as 31-year-old Daniel Ricardo Rodrigues and who is said to be of unsound mind, remains in custody.
Ganga Persaud Changa, called “Hare Bole” and “Krishna,” 52, of Santa Rosa Village, Moruca, North West District, died last Friday morning after he was chopped to death while on his way to his farm.
Changa was walking to his farm around 6.30am when he was approached by the suspect, who dealt him multiple chops about his body. His left hand and his feet were severed.
Stabroek News was told that in the two weeks prior to the murder, the suspect had allegedly threatened to kill the businessman. It is unclear if these threats were taken seriously and reported to the police.
