Banks DIH Limited under the GT Beer Brand became the titular sponsor of the Petra Organization Futsal Championship during a simple presentation ceremony staged yesterday at its Thirst Park Boardroom.
Troy Peters, Communi-cation Officer of Banks DIH Limited during the feature address said the company strives to stage sporting events that target communities, noting “We are extremely pleased to play a part because we know the players in those communities want something to do.”
He further said, “This is where we see it to offer our support and an organization like Petra that plan these events, see the need to have the wards involved. We look forward to continuing the relationship with Petra and look forward to a grand finish in the next few days”.
Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of Petra Organi-zation said, “The Petra Organization is once again happy to have Banks DIH on board for another program. The relationship between the two go back many years and we have recently concluded the GT Beer/Limacol Knockout Football Tournament. In trying times to have Banks [DIH] on board must be applauded”.
According to Mendonca, “It just shows their continued commitment to sports and social responsibility to the public at large. On behalf of the football fraternity, the communities at large and the GFF, thanks to the executives of Banks DIH for coming on board to deliver another grass-root program that will benefit the football fraternity”.
He further added that the competing teams should be applauded for the manner in which they have displayed a high level of discipline throughout the tournament.
The event will continue tomorrow at the National Gymnasium with the second round group matches. At 19:30hrs, Tigerbay opposes Agricola while Tucville will engage West Back Road from 20:15hrs.
In the third matchup, Sophia opposes Broad Street at 21:00hrs while holders Bent Street will lock horns with Albouystown at 21:45hrs. The final two fixtures will pit West Front Road-Gold is Money against North East La Penitence at 22:30hrs and Sparta Boss against Back Circle at 23:15hrs.
Group-A features Sparta Boss, Tigerbay, Agricola Champion Boys and Back Circle while group-B comprises West Front Road-Gold is Money, Tucville, West Back Road and North East La Penitence.
On the other hand, group-C consists of defending champion Bent Street, Sophia, Broad Street Bullies and Albouystown. The round robin stage will officially conclude on March 30th.
Upon the conclusion of the round-robin stage, the top two finishers and the best two third ranked teams from the respective groups will progress to the quarterfinal phase.
Winner of the tournament will collect $400,000 and the championship trophy while the runner-up will pocket $200,000 and the corresponding accolade.
The third and fourth place finishers will collect $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the respective accolade. The event is slated to conclude on April 15th.
To date the teams that have been eliminated from the competition are Leopold Street, Festival City, Kitty Weavers, North Ruimveldt, Channel-9 Warriors, Globe Yard, Hustlers, Showstoppers, Camp Street All-Stars, Stevedore Housing Scheme, Alexander Village and Campbellville.
