An Indian national drove himself to a city hospital on Tuesday evening, after managing to flee an armed bandit who shot him during an attempted robbery at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The incident which occurred around 23:30 hrs, has left Brianard Revival, 28, a foreign student of Lot 41 Second Street, Cummings Lodge, ECD, nursing a gunshot wound in his left hand.
Up to yesterday afternoon, he remained a patient at the Balwant Singh Hospital, where he had undergone emergency surgery. His condition is listed as stable.
At the time of the attack, Revival and his friends were returning home after visiting the Princess Casino, at Providence, East Bank Demerara.
It is suspected that they might have been trailed.
The police in a press release said Revival was in his car in the company of some friends and had stopped at a junction, when another car suddenly blocked his car.
“A male suspect, brandishing a handgun exited the back seat of the car, approached and demanded cash and valuables,” the police said. According to the bulletin, Revival immediately sped away during which the suspect discharged his firearm and the bullet struck him in his arm.
Additional information reaching this newspaper revealed that Revival was driving motor car, PRR 4881, in the vicinity of First Street, Cummings Lodge, when a silver grey motor car appeared in front of his car, at a corner, almost blocking his path.
The suspect, exited the car and rushed to Revival, holding him at gunpoint whilst demanding cash. Revival was driving away when he heard a loud explosion, and later discovered that he had been shot.
Investigations are ongoing. No arrest has been made as yet.
