Four weightlifters have been named to represent the Golden Arrowhead at the World Masters Games, scheduled for Auckland, New Zealand from April 20 to 30.
The lifters named are overseas based Howard Bovell competing in the 75 to 79 age group (77kg class), Colin McKoy 55 – 59 age group (62 kg class) Deion Nurse 55-59 age group (77kg class) and Sean Cozier 40-45 age group (94kg class).
Over the years, Guyana has been very successful at this level, namely in 1998, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2016, winning countless medals and other prizes.
According to a release, the Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) has convictions of success on this occasion. However, the participation at this event can only be possible with the support of the business community and the wider Guyanese society.
The local based athletes are expected to depart Guyana on April 18 to join the other team members in New York, before proceeding to Auckland a day later.
