Under increasing pressure from the public, the government today said that Cabinet will review the 14% Value Added Tax on private education tuition at its next meeting on Tuesday, April 11th.
The announcement was made by Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo at a meeting with owners and operators of private educational institutions along with students, parents and other stakeholders at at the National Cultural Centre, a release from the government said today.
The government had previously reviewed the 14% tax and had said that it would remain in place for now. Public protests and criticisms have intensified in recent weeks against what has been dubbed the `brain tax’.
