Despite an improved performance, the national men’s 7s team lost their final Group G match to Uruguay 14-50 when the three-day Cathay Pacific /HSBC Hong Kong Sevens continued yesterday.
The team had an improved offensive game in their final Group match but their defensive effort once again was their Achilles heel.
After losing to Spain (47-5) and Papua New Guinea (31-5) in their first two games on Friday, the ‘Green Machine allowed more points against their South American rivals.
The result put paid to the efforts of the locals who had hopes of qualifying for the next round of the tourney which is firmly established as the world’s premier event of its kind and one of the most popular annual sporting events in Asia.
