Marian Academy secured lopsided wins three categories of the National School Basketball Festival ‘Georgetown Extended Regionals’ Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports, Hall Homestretch Avenue.
In an U19 fixture, Marian Academy humbled President College 42-26 with Timothy Thompson registering a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds while Jether Harris and Josiah Daniels chipped in with seven points respectively.
For President’s College, Akeem Crandon had 14 points, eight rebounds and four steals while Anton Fileen assisted with 11 points.
In the girls division, Marian Academy defeated President’s College once more 15-9. Jada Mohan had eight points, eight rebounds and two steals while Jahrier Young tallied seven points and five rebounds.
For the losing team, Analisa Barclay netted six points and had as many steals while Lydia Roberts scored three points and three rebounds.
Marian Academy then made it 3-0 against the same opponent as, they defeated President College 26-17 in the Boys u14 section. Harris recorded a double-double of 17 points, 14 rebounds and three steals.
He was assisted by Duard Lewis who scored six points and had as many rebounds. For the East Coast of Demerara unit, Gabriel Lin registered five points and 10 rebounds while Joshua Butts scored seven points.
In another U19 boys encounter, St. Rose’s High downed Bishops’ High 34-24. Anthony Yansen accumulated 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
He was supported by Mark July and Kwesi Baker who netted five points apiece. For the losers, Shamal Beaton led the way with 12 points while Royden Glasgow scored eight points.
Meanwhile, the second matchup in the u14 Boy’s section witnessed Bishop’s High defeating Queens College via walkover. The event resumes today at the same venue from 15:00hrs.
