A farmer was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with having almost five pounds of cannabis.
Carlton Jonas denied the charge that he, on April 9 at Moco Moco, had in his possession 2.1kg (equivalent to 4.6 pounds) of cannabis for trafficking.
According to the prosecution, at about 5pm on the day of the discovery, police conducted a search of Jonas’ home and found the drugs in a five-gallon bucket.
The prosecution requested that Jonas not be granted bail based on the seriousness of the offence, the prevalence and the penalty it attracts.
Jonas was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance today, when it is expected that the case would be transferred to the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
