A Central Rupununi resident was just after 2:30 am today pronounced dead on arrival at the Lethem Hospital after being rushed to the medical institution by his reputed wife, bleeding profusely from a single knife-stab wound to the left region of his chest. He was reportedly stabbed by an unidentified male who allegedly attempted to rob them, while on their way home.
The police say that investigations have so far revealed that the 31-year-old security guard, Haimchand Persaud C/D Raj of 378 Tabatinga, Lethem and his reputed wife left a bar around 1.55 am, in their community, after imbibing with some friends and were on their way home. As they were in close proximity to their home, the suspect pounced with a knife and attempted to rob them, during which a physical encounter ensued between Persaud and the suspect who stabbed him and escaped on a motor cycle.
