A motorcyclist died early yesterday morning after he collided with the front fender of a parked motor lorry along the Reliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast and his family are blaming the police delay in rendering assistance for his death.
Dead is Ackeem James, 22, a Guyana Power and Light technician of Lot 3 Golden Fleece, Essequibo Coast. He was taken to the Suddie Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The accident occurred around 1:30am.
Police, in a statement on the accident, said enquiries disclosed that James was proceeding south along the Reliance Public Road on motorcycle CH 2307, when he collided with the left front fender of motor lorry GKK 9159, which was parked on the same side of the road.
“At the time of the accident James’ helmet was strapped to the handle bar on the motorcycle”, the police said.
Contacted last evening, the dead man father, Calvin James, told this newspaper that the family is still trying to come to grips with the shocking death of Ackeem.
Calvin said his son left his home to lime with some friends and was returning when tragedy struck.
He said he learnt of the accident after receiving a call and by the time he arrived at the scene Ackeem was already dead.
The man expressed dissatisfaction at the way his son’s accident was treated. “He left lying there with no assistance”, Calvin said.
He said that one of Ackeem’s friend who was also riding with him left to render assistance. “On his way he happen to meet the police and tell them what happened but they wanted to do a breathalyzer test so they took him to the station instead of going to the scene”, he explained.
“My son bled to death right there, they could have render some assistance at least”, he argued.
