Track and field Olympians, Troy Doris and Brenessa Thompson along with cricketer, Leon Johnson were among the top awardees when the National Sports Commission (NSC) hosted its annual award ceremony Friday evening at the Pegasus Hotel.
The USA based Thompson, 20, earned her first Sportswoman of the Year (2016) award after breaking several national sprint records en route to an Olympic berth last year in Brazil.
Doris, who is also USA-based, jointly won the Sportsman of the Year award along with Johnson after he set the national triple jump record last July. The Chicago, Illinois born Doris was the only Guyanese representative to compete in an Olympic final in Brazil.
The-28 year-old placed seventh in the final at the prestigious Games which was staged in Rio De Janeiro.
