A rudimentary mechanic workshop on the reserve has residents in the Sandy Babb Street, Kitty area, pleading with authorities to remove the operations.
Residents of the Sandy Babb and Middleton streets, Kitty, area, have filed complaints for the past 16 months in relation to the setting up of the mechanic workshop.
According to Ramesh Rajkumar, a resident whose home is obliquely opposite the workshop, since December of last year, he has made reports about it but he says that the city council has him going around in circles.
This newspaper saw a letter sent by Rajkumar and other concerned residents to Town Clerk Royston King, and Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan on the matter.
Rajkumar recalled that it was only recently that he went to the police station to report noise that was coming from the workshop sometime after 10 PM. According to him, the noise only ceased when the police went to the workshop.
Rajkumar contends that not only should the workshop not be on the reserve but it should also not be so near to homes.
Stabroek News spoke with the owner of the workshop who stated that he has permission to be on the reserve and was told by the city council to keep his area clean. He lamented that he, along with a few other men, operate in a small section of the area and are just trying to make a living.
He noted, however, that a portion of the reserve has vehicle parts that belong to another mechanic who operates a little distance from his worksite and he often gets blamed for them being on the reserve.
The proprietor added that he is not harming anyone by being on the reserve and assists who he can, with acquiring a job at his workshop.
