A Bartica resident was yesterday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennon after being charged with trafficking of narcotics.
Shawn Dawson, 27, a miner of 94 First Avenue, Bartica, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on Sunday at his home he had 491 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Police said that on the day in question, ranks acting on information swooped down on the accused’s place of abode around 2.30 pm after receiving information that he was selling narcotics.
Police said the accused was observed placing something in a toilet cistern. Upon examination by the police the illegal substance was found packaged in small-size Ziploc bags. Dawson was arrested and taken into custody immediately after the police said.
The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate Court and he is expected to make his next court appearance on May 12.
