Three accused robbers were yesterday committed to stand trial for allegedly abducting two men, including a policeman a 2015 attack in which $42 million were stolen from the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) during a transfer to the Bourda Post Office.
Stravo Evans, Simeon Williams and Oliver Franklin are charged with wrongfully restraining policeman Andre July and Darwin Hinds and abducting them on April 1, 2015, at Regent Street, Georgetown.
It is alleged that the trio took away July’s rifle then entered the vehicle and forced the driver to drive away with the policeman. The robbers then allegedly abandoned the vehicle along Cemetery Road, Georgetown, where they joined a car and escaped with the money along with the policeman’s weapon.
Magistrate Judy Latchman committed the men to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes at the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge against them.
Evans, of Lot 169 Middle Road, Georgetown, Williams, of Lot 36 Savage Street, West La Penitence and Franklin, of Lot 102 La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, will remain on bail until the matter is called at the High Court.
