A new Board of Directors for the state-owned National Communications Network (NCN) has been appointed with Enrico Woolford serving as the chairman.
Minister of State, Joseph Harmon made the announcement yesterday at the post-cabinet press briefing.
Other Directors appointed are: Beverly Alert, who serves as Director for the Government Infor-mation Agency; Broadcaster, Margaret Lawrence, Chief Editor of News Source, Gordon Moseley; Information Technology consultant, Michael Leonard along with Kamal Persaud and Dane Gobin. The board will serve from May 21, 2017 to April 30, 2018.
Woolford, is a veteran broadcaster and Ministerial Advisor on Public Telecommunications and the owner of Capitol News.
The previous board, which was headed by Bish Panday, expired at the end of last year. Panday had resigned and several other board members had not been attending meetings regularly.
Harmon, in response to a question, said he expects that the new board will look at policy with respect to ensuring that it operates as an entity that provides accurate and timely information to the Guyanese public.
With regards to political interference, he said that the APNU+AFC administration is about inclusiveness and that the board would be guided by that.
He said that programmes would entail informed discussions on issues that affect Guyanese on a daily basis.
