Dear Editor,
It is noted that an advertisement which appeared on page 11 of yesterday’s Stabroek News of an annual event in observance of Indian Arrival to Guyana has prominently displayed the religious symbols of a major religion.
This is insensitive and disrespectful and gives rise to the following questions:
Is the event a religious one more so only associated with the religion of the symbols displayed in the ad?
Is the organization which is putting on the event associated only with the religion of the symbols in the ad?
It is expected in things national care is taken not to offend the sensibilities of major stakeholders especially in this year as we observe the centennial of the abolition of Indian indentureship.
Yours faithfully,
Shamshun Mohamed
