A second half offensive blitz propelled Bounty Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) to a 8-2 win over Old Fort when the Farfan and Mendes men’s first division hockey league continued Friday.
With the score 2-2 at the GCC ground, Bourda, after the end of the first period, the home side secured the result as they recorded six unanswered goals in the second half.
Scorer of one goal in the first half in the 13th minute, experienced forward Kevin Spencer led the second half rout with a further three goals to claim a dogged helmet trick.
Spencer recorded his double with a 44th minute conversion. He then sealed his hat-trick in the 58th minute. The helmet trick quickly followed as Spencer scored one minute later.
Shaquille Leung also made his presence felt in the period with a quickfire double. The youth international scored in the 42nd and 43rd minute. Kareem McKenzie commenced the dominant showing with a 34th minute strike.
With the result, GCC walked away with three points and maintained their pursuit of league leader and undefeated unit Pepsi Hikers in the standings. the losing team left empty handed.
Prior to the lopsided second half, Mark Sergeant gave the hosts the lead, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the third minute. It then became 2-0 in favour of GCC as Spencer netted 10 minutes onward.
However the visitors battled back to level the score heading into the halftime? interval, with two goals in the space of a minute. Warren Williams cut the deficit to one compliments of a 22nd minute conversion.
Parity was then restored to proceedings one minute later as skillful attacker Aderemi Simon blasted past the goalkeeper. The event resumes today at the St. Stanislaus College ground on Carifesta Avenue. The four team tournament also comprises of Saints HC.
