Balsam commonly called Lady Slipper originated from Southern Asia.
Lady Slipper is an annual plant and is an old-fashioned favourite grown from seeds between April and September; it is a member of the Impatiens family.
Lady Slipper grows well in full sun or semi shade in rich, well-drained soil.
There are single and double blooms in a variety of colours such as red, pink, rose, purple and white. Leaves are glossy green and lance shaped. They make excellent borders or hedges.
Lady Slipper has adapted well in the Caribbean, North America and South Africa. New hybrids were developed after World War 11.
Fertilize your Lady Slipper with Miracle Gro All Purpose Plant Food once every two weeks and enjoy the flowers while they bloom.
Until next week, Happy Gardening.
