The Mayor and City Council is to meet with all designers and artists operating in the city on Friday May 19, 2017 at 16:30 hrs at the Promenade Gardens.
A release from City Hall said that this meeting is an exploratory one which seeks to solicit ideas, views and opinions of local artists on how the council can improve the aesthetics of the city of Georgetown and “make it comparable with the great cities of the world”. The meeting would also be about integrating art, design and culture with the vision and programmes of the city.
“Art and Culture strategies assist to present the underlying identities of communities and cities. This is reflected through the community’s character of sense of place. This is dynamic bringing to the fore the range of core values of communities and cities”, City Hall said.
It added that the council believes that Artists and Designers can come together to speak to and express this story of Georgetown in ways which could make the city more appealing and enhance the well-being of local neighbourhoods.
“It is the considered view of the council that local Artists and Designers must be included in any attempt to enhance the aesthetics and general appearance of the city. Therefore, the council has taken this first step to invite Artists and to allow them to express themselves on this key question of the unique narrative of the nation’s capital”, City Hall said.
