A cyclist was killed in an accident on Saturday night on the Beterverwagting Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and the driver of the motor car is currently in police custody.
The cyclist is unidentified.
The police said the car was travelling east on the road when the cyclist allegedly rode out from the northern side and turned east in his path and collided with the left side of the vehicle.
As a result of the impact, the cyclist sustained injuries to his head and was picked up and immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by the driver but was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour.
According to information gathered from the police, the driver of the motor car, PRR 5263 is a 25 year old businessman of Good Hope, ECD . A breathalyzer test was administered and results were negative.
