New Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation has agreed to supply to the GPHC, replacements for a defective batch of soda lime which is used to assist patients to breathe while under anaesthesia.
This was disclosed today by the Ministry of Public Health in a release. While the GPHC has no soda lime in stock, if necessary it will have access to supplies from the Woodlands Hospital.
Soda lime in granular form is used in the breathing apparatus but the batch supplied by NGPC has deteriorated into powder form and therefore cannot be used. The Ministry of Public Health release said that the GPHC drew the deterioration in the soda lime to the attention of NGPC and the company replied by email and said that the 14 bottles of the defective soda lime will be replaced as soon as a new batch arrives in the country.
