Whenever the calendar flips to May, local powerlifters gear up for the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) annual Claude Charles Memorial Intermediate and Master’s Championships.
This year will be no different. According to a release, this year’s event will be staged on Sunday at the Banks DIH Sports Club at Thirst Park. The championship is expected to usher in the return of some of Guyana’s most seasoned and decorated powerlifters, ‘Big’ John Edwards (Master One) will be making his comeback after four years.
Patrons can also look forward to the likes of Winston ‘Little Master’ Stoby who will be competing in the Masters Two category. Frank Tucker, President of the Guyana Weightlifting Association will also be competing in the Masters Three division along with Farouk Abdool out of Hardcore Gym in Berbice.
Several young strongmen and women are expected to vie for supremacy in the Intermediate Category, after graduating from the Novices ranks.
Seasoned body builder and powerlifting competitor, Nadina Taharally will be once again stepping on to the platform to compete in the Masters One category. Fitness Express have so far pledged their support for the event.
