The cyclist killed after a collision with a car along the Beterverwagting Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Saturday night was yesterday identified as Johnny Teixeira.
Teixeira, 31, of Good Hope, ECD, was positively identified by his father.
Commander of ‘C’ Division Kevin Adonis confirmed the identification and added that the police are wrapping up the investigation of the fatal accident. He noted that charges are likely to be laid soon.
The police said the car, with licence plate PRR 5263, was travelling east along the road when the cyclist allegedly rode from the northern side and turned into its path and a collision occurred.
As a result of the impact, the cyclist sustained injuries to his head and was picked up and immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation by the driver. But he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The driver of the car is a 25-year-old businessman, also of Good Hope. A breathalyzer test was administered on him after the accident and the results were negative, police said.
