Bartica’s Mayor, Gifford Marshall, and the top brass of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Inc. (GBBFFI) are hoping that the first outreach initiative by the federation has laid the groundwork to stimulate more fitness awareness and growth within Guyana’s newest town.
Members of the fitness federation, along with some standout athletes, yesterday wrapped up a successful and informative two-day outreach to the Region 7 community where they interacted with students and adults as a means of transmitting the message verbally and visually across to the Barticians.
“With our continued efforts to strengthen the bodybuilding and fitness pool in Guyana, we reached out to Bartica to assess the talent available in that area paying keener attention to their youth who are plagued by many negative distractions,” said Coel Marks, president of the bodybuilding federation.
“The Mayor seems very committed to facilitating sports development in his town and exhibited his commitment by hosting us. In addition, our visit was to establish the network that will facilitate us hosting a major bodybuilding focused event in Bartica,” he added.
According to Marks, the trip was fruitful.
“The trip bore fruit and we were able to plant more seeds which will help us to make the discipline a truly a national one including participation from every viable community in Guyana,” he added.
During the outreach, the federation showcased a few athletes and also held question and answer segments with students of Bartica Secondary and Three Miles Secondary in an effort to help build and convey a better understanding of the benefits of adopting a healthier lifestyle.
Marshall and Marks both agreed to foster stronger ties between residents of the town and the GBBFFI.
Said Marks: “In the short future we will be hosting a competition here to further the causes of the GBBFFI.”
He added “A fitness show was discussed to be held here in Bartica, we are exploring to stage it sometime after seniors, perhaps in September. “
