Blairmont Blazers (BB) defeated Cotton Tree Die Hard (CTDH) by 32 runs in the final of the third Blairmont Floodlight Cup Reload competition held at the Blairmont sports club ground on Sunday.
Blairmont Blazers (BB) won the toss and elected to bat in a match which was reduced to eight overs per side due to adverse weather conditions which prevented play from starting as scheduled. Blazers, however, romped to 96 for one from their allotted eight overs on the back of a Man-of-the-Match innings by Martin Singh who carved out an unbeaten 54 from 26 balls after stroking three fours and four sixes.
Pooran Persaud (1 for 13) was the lone wicket-taker for Cotton Tree Die Hard (CTDH) side whose bowlers were plundered to all parts by Singh who also copped the MVP of the tournament and batsman with the most sixes awards.
CTDH in their turn at the crease started like a house on fire and raced to 32 from two overs. They were, however, halted by Waqar Hassan (3-24) and Kassim Khan (2-12) whose efforts reduced CTDH to 55/5 which handed Blazers the title.
Meanwhile, team Gold won the dominoes competition with the team Fine Ants placing second and team Royals, third.
Officials from the Blairmont Club, at the presentation ceremony, thanked the almost 700 supports who braved the adverse weather to witness the eight-team showdown, the spectators, and sponsors for their contributions in making the event a successful one.
