When the 32nd Pan-American Road Cycling Championships is staged in the Dominican Republic this weekend, Guyana will be represented by five cyclists.
According to a release, Andrew Hicks will compete for a podium spot in the U-23 segment of the prestigious event while Hamza Eastman, Jamal John, Junior Niles and Paul DeNobrega will ride in the elite category.
Guyana Cycling Federation’s President, Horace Burrowes and Assistant Racing Secretary Joseph Britton are the officials accompanying the wheelsmen on the sojourn.
Eastman left Guyana one week ago for Anguilla where he competed and won a road race there. He will join the team in the Dominican Republic.
The Under-23 category road race, a 140km trek will be held on Saturday while the Elite race, 30km longer is set for Sunday. There will also be individual Time Trials for males and females but the local outfit would not be participating.
The countries confirmed to compete are Argentina, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curacao, Ecuador, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay and Venezuela.
