Up from three last year, the sum of six territories have confirmed their participation for this year’s Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors boxing tournament set for the National Gymnasium from May 12.
This is according to President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle who spoke with Stabroek Sports yesterday about the upcoming three-day fixture.
Said Ninvalle, “Already there is confirmed participation from Trinidad, Barbados, St Lucia, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname.”
He revealed that the championships which was started last year, because of the clamoring of the regional administrators for emphasis to be placed on the nursery of the sport, will have international referees, two from the Cayman Islands and one from St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.
The GBA head also disclosed that the English speaking Caribbean’s lone three-star Referee/Judge, James Beckles, will be arriving in Guyana on Tuesday to conduct a three-day seminar.
“He will be starting a seminar the same day” Ninvalle noted.
The tournament is set to get underway at 20:00hrs nightly.
