Ansa McAl under the Stag Beer Brand became the latest sponsor of the annual West Demerara Football Association/Derrick Josiah Memorial Championships by donating an undisclosed sum during a simple presentation ceremony at the entity’s Beterverwagting (BV) office.
Stag Beer Brand Manager Lindon Henry made the presentation to Guyana Police Force (GPF) Assistant Superintendent of Police Forbes Brown towards the successful staging of the event which is set to commence tomorrow (Sunday).
The event which is to be held at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, will feature eight teams competing in an elimination format.
The opening fixture at 19:00hrs will pit Den Amstel against Stewartville. In the feature contest from 21:00hrs, Eagles FC will oppose Young Achievers.
Prior to the commencement of the matches, GPF will oppose Jetty Gunners in an exhibition matchup. Action will continue on May 12th at the same venue.
At 18:00hrs, Pouderoyen will engage Golden Warriors while Uitvlugt Warriors will lock horns with Wales United. The subsequent semifinal round will be staged on May 14th.
Winner of the tourney will walk away with $200,000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the second, third and fourth place finisher will receive $100,000, $75,000 and $50,000 respectively.
