LONDON, CMC – West Indies fast bowler Ravi Rampaul snatched a four-wicket haul to help fire English county Surrey to a seven-wicket victory over Middlesex in the Royal London One-Day Cup here Friday.
Sent in at the Oval, Middlesex were limited to 243 for nine from their 50 overs, with right-armer Rampaul finishing with four for 40 from his 10 overs.
Wicketkeeper John Simpson top-scored with 75 from 83 deliveries while opener Nick Gubbins chipped in with 65 from 86 balls before becoming Rampaul’s second victim in the 30th over at 137 for four.
In reply, Surrey overhauled their target in the 46th over, with Rory Burns top-scoring with an unbeaten 67 in an unbroken 117-run, fourth wicket stand with Ben Foakes who struck 55 not out.
Sri Lankan star Kumar Sangakkara chipped in with 59.
At St Lawrence Ground, Barbadian seamer Jodra Archer continued to impress as his Sussex produced a fine run chase to beat Kent by six wickets.
The 22-year-old claimed three for 54 from 10 overs to help restrict Kent to 331 for seven off their 50 overs, after they were sent in.
Opener Daniel Bell-Drummond, whose parents are Jamaican, smashed a run-a-ball 138 while Alex Blake unfurled a cameo 76 off 43 deliveries down the order.
West Indies fast bowler Jerome Taylor, in his second game for Sussex, found the going tough and finished with one for 69 from his 10 overs.
In reply, Laurie Evans struck a magnificent unbeaten 134 from 86 deliveries to propel Sussex to their target with 13 balls remaining.
