Gov’t, private sector in high-level meeting

The Private Sector Commission on Thursday met with Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan (at head of table), Guyana Revenue Authority Head, Godfrey Statia and Bank of Guyana Governor, Gobind Ganga to discuss myriad issues that ranged from the sliding Guyana currency to the Value Added Tax on imports and other items. Sources told Stabroek News that while the meeting started off in a tense atmosphere it ended on “great grounds”. This newspaper understands that government committed to reviewing VAT on tourism-related services. The two sides have agreed to meet again soon and to issue a joint press statement on the nature of the meetings.
