The athletes of the Police Sports Club (PSC) defended their turf and walked away with most of the spoils of the Boyce/ Jefford Relay Festival and Family Fun Day which was staged yesterday.
Despite the overcast conditions, the second annual fixture was filled with excitement on and off the track as the standout athletes and lucky patrons (who won gate prizes) were handsomely rewarded.
The event featured relays, cycling, softball cricket, five-a-side soccer and dominoes.
While the marquee 4x100m event which was won by the PSC was the curtain closer, differently abled cyclist, Walter Grant-Stuart won the hearts of the fans after taking pole in the 5000m race.
Grant-Stuart who lost his left arm in a forgettable accident was given a 200m start ahead of the other wheelsmen but surprisingly maintained his cushion and went on to win. He received a raucous reception following the feat.
The organizers dubbed the event a success despite the postponement last Sunday due to inclement weather.
